About
***************************************************
Ever since I was a child I have always loved animation, I knew that it was what I wanted to do for a career, the only problem was I could not draw. So that dream was quickly crushed, and I moved onto other things.
When I grew up and entered adulthood, I knew something was missing in my life…. I was working 9 to 5 in a thankless job, that just did not make me happy. I then started modding games in my free time, such as Half Life back in 97′ This grew into a passion of mine…. Game design and development.
I then started my own business, Gear Worx Productions (http://gearworxprod.com) which does contract work for other game studios. Recently I have started working on my own casual games. Which will be released on PC, Mac and Web Portals.
I decided to go back to school to further myself, and obtain that skill that I have always been craving. So I started hunting for a school that taught animation. . . . . After two years of looking I found Vancouver Film School. Shortly after, I found Animation Mentor, I learned that the classes were taught by professionals that are actively working in the industry. I thought it was too good to be true. So I dropped out of Vancouver Film School, because it did not offer the experience that Animation Mentor could offer me.
I am currently enrolled in Animation Mentor, and I am one year into the 18 month course, and I must say, it was the best decision I have ever made. This school is amazing, and I am learning so much.
I remember the very first computer animated film that I watched, TRON! I remember standing outside in line, in the pouring rain, holding my fathers hand, waiting to get into the nice warm and dry theater. I did not know what to expect when I entered the cinema that night. However what played out before me, made me wide eyed and curious. Shortly after a Laserdisc game, created by animation GOD, Don Bluth hit the local arcades. It was called Dragon’s Lair…. This game was basically an interactive movie containing traditional 2D animation that blew my mind. Dirk the daring, Princess Daphne, Evil Dragon Singe… OH MY GOD THIS WAS AMAZING!!! I thought, so for the next couple years I played that game in the arcades. I must of pumped in over $500 in to those machines. Thats really when animation opened my eyes, I was a Don Bluth addict and still am to this very day. His greats include The Secret Of Nimh, Titan AE, Fantasia and so many more. I really owe it to Don Bluth for getting me into animation…. Because without his inspiration, I would still be working in that crappy 9 to 5 job.
