I have a question about Bleach (Anime / Manga)?

Ok, this is my request. I do not understand very well about the bleach is strong captains levels. In the first arc Ichigo managed to beat two captains, Kenpachi and Byakuya. I'll start with Byakuya in the fight that showed both him and Ichigo fight on equal terms with Ichigo being a little better and therefore the winner. How does it make sense?? Later that arc Arancarr Byakuya was able to easily defeat the then seven Espada Ichigo could not beat to beat Grimmjow – 6th Espada – Obtaining his hollow mask. This difference in power makes no sense! Now Kenpachi, which still has less sense. Ichigo Kenpachi paid in the first arc, and Ichigo won. Ichigo beat a banner on Kenpachi's eye is removed and has won without his mask or even Bankai hollow! However, Arco other Kenpachi could beat the fifth Espada! Ichigo could only beat Grimmjow – once again say that the sixth Espada. Any explanation would be greatly appreciated.
