Does the Manga for Dummies consist of different art styles? (question for those who have the book)?
I’m thinking about getting the book this week Friday; but I do not like the art style on the cover. Someone has told me that different styles are in the book, but is that true?
(Please, this is a question directed to those who have the book or who have at least seen the drawing inside of it.)
I do not own the book, but I have looked it up and looked inside and done thorough research because I was also looking for it. Basically it is a crude, Americanized version of the most basic anime. Try Katy Coope as a 10-year old and that’s basically what Manga for Dummies is. I would recommend the Giant Book of Manga–it’s also a very simplistic style, but it covers a wider range. I myself perfer the slightly more detailed style, which really just has to be learned by reading manga and watching the styles. However, if you like a slightly shojo approach, definitely look up the “How to Draw Manga: Back to the Basics” and its sequels, along with the “How to Draw Manga” series that has maybe 70 books out, each targeting different aspects of manga and styles. However, the first one is much more versatile for different styles, I think, and has much more explanation and step-by-step things than the long series does.
