Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis information
The Langerhans cell histiocytosis also known; De histiocytosis Langerhans histiocytosis X. is a rare disease that occurs when too many for a type of white blood cells called Langerhans cells. These cells normally reside in the skin and help fight infections and kill certain foreign substances in the body. About 50 children in the UK to develop Langerhans cell histiocytosis cells of each year. It can affect children of any age and is more common in boys than in girls. It is estimated that 8.9 million children all under 15 years have histiocytosis Seventy-six percent of cases occur before ten (10) years.
The disease is classified as a system one or more systems based on the number organ systems takes place. The Langerhans cell histiocytosis can also be found in the ribs, sternum, long bones of the arms and legs, the vertebrae of the spine and pelvis. Lymph nodes may be enlarged. Children may be irritable and have poor appetite. The Langerhans cell histiocytosis treated with corticosteroids, which suppress immune function. Psoralen plus ultraviolet A (PUVA) is another excellent treatment for skin or skin only LCH causing multisystem disease. The radiation or surgery can also be used to treat bone lesions.
