Strength and mental stamina – Black and White

In our mission to maintain the mental strength and mental strength, we must examine and challenge the errors in our thought. These "trial errors" are considered as deductions by cognitive therapists. Inferences are hypotheses of us think is happening, happened or will happen. They are statements of what we believe are the facts and go beyond the immediate and observable evidence. Can be true or false, useful or useless, rational or irrational. Inferences are often gross distortions of reality. This article focuses on one of the most common consequences and unnecessary, entitled "Black and White" thinking.

As its name suggests, black and white thinking is when we think of things as they are biased to either end without acknowledging or taking into account the possibility any area of shade to medium term. As

The boss is always right.
If you do not love me, you have to hate.
If you are not smart, you must be stupid.
If they are not thin, then you're fat.
If you're not for us, then you're against us.
If this is not true, then it is a lie

Yes or No
Good or bad
Excellent or terrible
Love it or hate
Winners and losers

Here is an example of each day. A student may test review 95% or more of the evidence that he is intelligent, while a score of 85% will be demonstrate that it is stupid and thick. As shown in this example, the black and white thinking is common to those of us with perfectionist traits and can lead to feelings of inferiority.

Black and white thinking can also lead to anxiety and low self-esteem. For example, if we have a social event and someone attractive to not make contact visual, you can jump to the negative conclusion that we did not like and the ugly. However, if we smile, we can move to the opposite conclusion and see what the evidence that are desirable and useful.

Sometimes when we are stressed and emotionally upset we can fall into thinking in black and white. When we are anxious and not can think and reason clearly, you can opt for a "well … or …" solution. This may offer fast relief of our distress and a provisional final to our discomfort, but may have lost the opportunity for a more flexible practical or useful. This philosophy is doomed to failure that have been used children frustrated when our thoughts were less developed. When people are stressed, they often retreat and "throw their toys out the pram. For example:

"If I can not designer trainers do not want anything,"
"If I'm objective, I do not play … is my ball and go home "
"If I call this really does not care about me"
"I want my stapler or I can not work"
"Who took my chair, I'm leaving"
"I have my cup of coffee or not" … boo hoo … mourn mourn … scream, scream … "

In these times of global recession and uncertainty, is understandable that some people may feel overwhelmed and distressed. However, we must resist the temptation to simplistic and polarized thinking. During recession, we Progressive think instead of thinking backward. It is also important given that thinking in black and white is used in worship were no alternatives exist and are believed freedom is not allowed.
