Why did Disney feel the need to announce The Frog Princess the way they did?
They’re announcing the first black Disney princess ever as if her addition to the cinematic world will be as ground-breaking as Star Wars. Is the fact that she’s black really news worthy, especially since the movie’s taking place in New Orleans? I don’t remember any news clammor about Disney making Muslim or Native American princesses back when Aladdin and Pocahontas came out. No one seemed to notice that there’s barely a single white face in Lilo & Stitch. Go ahead and announce the return to traditional cel animation in a world of CGI, but why announce that you’re including a black cast?
I think it is because in the past two years there have been numerous petitions circling with thousands of signatures asking Disney to add a black princess to their princess line. I guess they wanted those people to know their voice had been heard.
It’s about d*** time is all I can say.
