How do i change the settings on my guitar amp to sound like heavy metal?

i recently purchased a peavey vypyr 15 amp with a les paul and was wondering how to make it sound like heavy metal. some examples of bands are: slayer, lamb of god, slipknot, ozzy osbourne, metallica.
plz help!

Change the Bass to about 9~10 and the Treble to about 8. Then set the Mids to around 4~5. After that raise your Gain up to max and use the bridge pickup on your guitar.

However, if your amp isn’t capable of producing enough distortion then you could try a Boss MetalCore pedal. http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetails.php?ProductId=851
It’ll be like adding steroids to your amp.

And if that doesn’t work either than you might want to try a high output pickup like a Dimarzio X2N or a Seymour Duncan DimeBucker
