Is it acceptable to give our 18 years of Kitty Metacam every day for months?

Hello! Our 18-year-old Siamese tabby has very bad arthritis and have been giving Metacam daily for the last 6 months. I realized that our poor Kitty does not lie a lot, but flat rate above the bed and goes to bed, but not quite. It is as if it hurts to go that last bit to sleep. I want to metacam every day, but my husband says it will damage kidneys. Is it true in years of experience? My husband has taken glucosamine tablets in capsules to sprinkle the powder in their food to help their joints, but our cat would not eat it. Has anyone heard of a cat friendly syrup that glucosamine would? PS. I call our vet, but on Tuesday I spent $ 500 had not budgeted for our other cat.
