What is the quality of Mini DV?

I am looking for a basic camera enough. Image is clear with Mini DV Camcorders? I've heard that there are at least equal to or better than VHS movies, which for the videos is not so bad.

Do not let the "mini" stupid, this is a far superior system to VHS tapes. Mini refers to the size of the DV tape Two sizes, regular and mini.
