Mention Greek gods and people immediately think of Zeus, etc. Before these gods known came on the scene, however, there was another group of gods.

There were too many figures in the world of Greek mythology, gods and goddesses of mythical fantasy creatures. Even though the gods and goddesses themselves were often the most attention, is the mythical characters who actually did the work histories. Without the interaction between the figures of God and mortal creatures, the stories have not been fully flesh. A group of characters were the Titans, and interesting history.

The Titans were a race of gods and goddesses that ruled Greece during the golden age. There original twelve Titans, with thirteenth Titan in play after an appearance on the literary Bibliotheke. The father and the mother of the Titans were Uranus and Gaia and Uranus was overthrown by his son Cronus, who was the youngest of the group. In addition, the Titans have given birth to more than the Titans, including Prometheus, Epimetheus, Atlas and Menoetius: it is the son of Iapetus.

The Titans preceded the Twelve Gods of Olympus, which is headed by Zeus and the Titans fought the war (of the Titans). The Titans lost war, and were imprisoned by the gods of Olympus in Tartarus, the lowest points of the underworld. The twelve Titans were grouped in pairs, or couples, including Oceanus and Tethys, Hyperion and Theia, Coeus and Phoebe, Cronus and Rhea and four separate gods: Mnemosyne, Themis, Iapetus, and Creus. Was thirteenth Titan Dione, which Theia was a duplicate.

It is said that Chronos was the most monstrous and cunning of the twelve, and when he was born his mother Gaia, he formed an intense hatred of his father. Uranus felt, and son locked in the bowels of the earth. Once there, Chronos was assisted by the Cyclops and other creatures and fled, then castrated his father Uranus and took the beautiful Rea for his wife. From this union, the new generation is born gods, including Zeus.

The Titans have played an important role in the myth of the creation of gods and goddesses of Olympus, and even if they do not mean much on the religious scene last Age of ancient Greece, that gave birth to the gods Mount Olympus is an important part of Greek culture.
