Any ideas for Son who doesn’t understand English mechanics?
Because my son is an only, he has heard College level English his whole life. He began writting college level papers in 4th grade, but by 8th grade its became apparent that he doesn’t understand the mechanics and he’s failing. He also has difficulty retaining what he’s read. He can read a tom clancey sniper book, put it down, come back to it days later, and not remember anything. He has to start over and begin at the top.
At this point he feels stupid and like a fake. When he writes a paper and gets an A, then writes another paper and gets a D, he can’t see the difference.
At 13, no one should feel this stupid.
I’ve tried approaching the formation of a paragraph, sentence and paper from a purely mathmatical formula approach, and that works as a backdoor to learning, but it doesn’t seem to help from the beginning.
Any ideas would be great. I’ve got him on niacin and peanut butter to help with the spacing out tendancies, but just barely…
He may be a gifted child with a small learning difficulty. He may also have a very ,mild case of autism. My advice would be to take him to a professional and have him tested.
